Role summary
This Staff Nurse role is on Ward 4 at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, a 24-hour emergency admissions ward for gastroenterology and general medicine. You will provide high-quality, professional, and holistic care to adult patients with acute medical conditions. The role involves working as part of a dynamic nursing team, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. It is a fully rotational post covering days, nights, and seven days a week, offering opportunities for development within a supportive multi-disciplinary team.
Key responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care working as a member of the ward team under the direction of the Ward Manager.
- Be responsible for the organising and co-ordination of nursing services in the ward/dept in the absence of senior staff on a regular basis.
- Exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- Be responsible for all nursing care standards and to maintain high clinical standards.
- Role model compassionate and inclusive leadership to shape a collective leadership culture within the trust.
Essential criteria
- 1st Level live NMC registered Nurse
- Evidence of qualification to undertake the supervision, teaching and assessing of students (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period).
Desirable criteria
- PP126/7
- D32/33
- Post Registration qualification in specialty
- Diploma/degree in nursing
- Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
- Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods

Job summary
Ward 4 at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital is a 24 hour emergency admissions ward specialising in joint gastroenterology and medicine, treating both male and female adult patients with acute medical conditions.
Our staff nurses provide a high quality service in a safe environment where the needs to each patient is cared for in a professional and holistic manner by using all available specialist knowledge and skills. The wellbeing of all our patients relies on appropriate and timely assessment, investigation, treatment and care.
Our ward can be a busy and challenging environment. In joining our team, you will bring your skills and passion to provide the highest quality patient-focused care and compassion for our patients. You must be a team player with excellent communications skills and have the ability to work using your own initiative as well as part of the wider team.
The post is fully rotational days/nights and covers seven days a week.
