Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to work on an 18-bedded Surgical ward, primarily caring for patients undergoing Emergency and Elective Vascular surgery. The role involves pre and post-operative care, medication administration, wound care, and managing complex patients. The successful applicant will start at Royal Blackburn Hospital but will transfer to Preston Hospital when the Vascular Service centralises. We are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic nurses with excellent communication skills and a desire to deliver high standards of nursing care.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care.
  • Implement and evaluate care programmes.
  • Carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrate procedures to and supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff.
  • Administer medication, including controlled drugs, by various routes.
  • Record physiological observations and perform wound care.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to work on an 18 bedded Surgical ward, primarily taking care of patients who undergo Emergency and Elective Vascular surgery with nursing ratio of 1-6 on the day shift and 1-9 on the night shift.

The Vascular Service nationally is ever improving and evolving and there is current plans to have a centralised service for all East Lancashire patients at Preston Hospital in the future . The successful applicant would start their new role as Staff nurse at Royal Blackburn Hospital however when the Vascular Service moves in the futures you will be expected to transfer to Preston Hospital with all the other staff and services .( no confirmed dates as yet as still at planning stage ).
