Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Paediatric Dietitian to join the Dietetic team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay, based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The successful candidate will work within an experienced multidisciplinary team, delivering care across health and social care settings, including inpatient and outpatient work. The role provides experience in a wide range of specialist areas such as nutrition support, enteral feeding, gastroenterology, food allergy, and feeding difficulties. The post-holder will also support the development of students, junior staff, and colleagues within the wider MDT, with opportunities to contribute to service development.

Key responsibilities

  • Work within the specified clinical area (Paediatrics).
  • Advise and support staff on managing complex paediatric clinical issues for the Dietetic site service and at other UHMBT sites as required.
  • Manage a caseload of patients with a range of frequently complex conditions, appropriate to specialist knowledge and skill level and experience.
  • Take responsibility for the management of your own caseload without direct supervision.
  • Support the implementation of service improvement and developments within the Trust Paediatric Dietetic Service.
  • Undertake clinical and departmental support duties.

Essential criteria

  • Current Health Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Dietitian
  • Degree in Nutrition and/or Dietetics or postgraduate diploma in Dietetics or equivalent qualification
  • Evidence of transferrable skills
  • Strong interest and commitment to work within paediatrics
  • Postgraduate experience of working in acute / community services
  • Evidence of self-directed learning and willingness to participate in CPD
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent time management
  • Awareness of research methods and audit skills that inform and evaluate practice

Desirable criteria

  • Post-graduate Paediatric Dietetic Qualification(s) / Experience
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) Paediatric Specialist Group
  • Experience of working with children as a Dietitian
  • Evidence of supporting dietetic students in pre-registration training programme
  • Experience of telephone, virtual and face to face consultations
  • Excellent IT skills, including use of Electronic Patient Records
  • Ability to travel between sites
