Role summary
This role involves working with young people to plan, deliver, and encourage participation in a wide range of meaningful activities on Kestrel Ward, a 12-bedded General Adolescent Inpatient Unit. The Activities Coordinator will help reduce boredom, promote engagement, and contribute to the wellbeing and recovery of service users. It requires a creative, flexible, and enthusiastic individual who can adapt activities to meet diverse needs and work collaboratively within the ward team.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and encourage participation in a wide range of meaningful activities.
- Support service users through creative, therapeutic, and recreational activities.
- Contribute to holistic, person-centred care as an integral member of the wider Ward Team.
- Adapt activities to meet different needs and abilities of young people.
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in relevant subject area.
- Significant experience in a health care or education setting or experience in an CAMHS setting
- NVQ Level 4 or equivalent or willingness to undertake within 18 months in post
- Experience of working with individuals with mental health needs in a health or education setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Co-ordination and organisational skills.
- Basic risk assessment and risk management skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
- Computer literacy.
- An understanding of issues affecting people with mental illness.
- A Basic awareness of issues affecting health and social care.
- An understanding and awareness of person centred care
- Ability to manage own workload and determine priorities.
- Ability to problem solve and adapt to novel situations under pressure.
- An understanding of equality and social inclusion principles.
- Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
- Commitment to equal opportunities and a positive and inclusive attitude to service users and their families/carers.
- Ability to empathise with service users.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Commitment to training and development and ongoing evidence of personal development.
- Enthusiastic and self-motivated.
- Positive attitude towards mental health.

- Hold a valid driver's license and be willing to utilise ward vehicles for transport of service users.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with young people between the ages of 12-18 with complex needs including Mental health, Learning Disability and Neurodevelopmental conditions.
- Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
- Previous experience in delivering group activities
- Knowledge or experience of working with 3rd sector organisations
- Experience of working closely with and delegating tasks to others
- Satisfactory Standard/Enhanced DBS clearance including a Childrens Barred List check

We are looking for an Activity Coordinator to join the NWAS team and play a key role in enhancing the wellbeing and recovery of our service users. This role is central to creating a positive Ward environment by planning, delivering and encouraging participation in a wide range of meaningful activities that reduce boredom and promote engagement.
You will work primarily alongside service users, supporting them through creative, therapeutic and recreational activities, while also becoming an integral member of the wider Ward Team, contributing to holistic, person-centred care.
