Role summary
This role involves working as part of the Central Lancashire Sexual Health Services Team, providing sexual health advice, screening, and treatment, including contraception. The post holder will assess patients, initiate treatments, and manage partner notifications. They will also be responsible for coordinating with support staff and contributing to the development of nursing within the service. The role requires working across all areas of Sexual Health Services, including outreach clinics.
Key responsibilities
- Assess, plan, and provide sexual health advice, screening, and treatment (including contraception) to patients.
- Coordinate with the support of the Nurse in Charge and Health Care Support Workers within the clinical area.
- Contribute to the continued development of nursing, including the supervision and support of junior nurses and support staff.
- Provide sexual health advice to patients following a positive STI diagnosis, initiate treatments, and implement partner notification measures.
- Independently undertake and be responsible for sexual health clinical sessions, assessing patients and taking a sexual history.
- Independently perform comprehensive male and female genital examinations and investigative procedures for patients including HIV testing and cervical cytology sampling.
Essential criteria
- First level registered nurse
- DFSRH Qualification or equivalent
- LoC Sub-Dermal Implants
- Specialist course or in-house training in STI screening
- Mentorship / assessment module / training
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Experience of working in nurse led clinics and working to PGDs
- Multi-disciplinary working
- Evidence of working with young people and under 16's
- Experience of clinical audit
- Proficient in cervical cytology
- 2 years working in sexual health
- Ability to independently undertake genital examination and screening tests in both male and female patients including cervical cytology
- Able to perform venepuncture
- In depth knowledge of sexual health
- Knowledge of National and local sexual health strategies
- Computer Literate
- Ability to respond to pressure and to prioritise workload
- Good working knowledge of Clinical Governance agenda
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to Mentor Students

- Management Qualification
- Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
- Knowledge of data protection acts
- Evidence of risk assessment responsibility

Job summary
The post holder will work as part of the Central Lancashire Sexual Health Services Team in Preston and its surrounding areas and will assess, plan, and provide sexual health advice, screening, and treatment (including contraception) to patients in a supportive confidential environment, recognising when to refer a problem onto a doctor or Specialist Nurse within the service.
