Role summary

This role involves supporting and guiding staff on adult protection cases, working collaboratively with agencies to safeguard vulnerable adults. Key responsibilities

  • Provide training to frontline health professionals on Adult Protection, Mental Capacity, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  • Offer specialist advice and support to staff regarding Mental Capacity assessments and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  • Advise staff on Safeguarding Adults issues, including attending strategy meetings and case conferences.
  • Facilitate safeguarding supervision following incidents.
  • Ensure vulnerable adults and their relatives/carers are involved in care decisions and service development, engaging advocacy when needed.

Essential criteria

  • Minimum 5 years post registration experience
  • At least 3 years Band 6 experience in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be a strong advocate for the welfare, protection and rights of adults at risk.
  • Clear safeguarding experience, with a highly developed specialist knowledge of the subject area
  • Able to communicate complex information effectively across disciplines and agencies
  • Able to question and analyse information and to make sound judgements often under pressure in difficult circumstances
  • Able to deliver training to large groups and to communicate this knowledge effectively
  • Evidence of good communication skills, written, verbal and presentation
  • Resolving user concerns effectively
  • Ability to provide specialist advice and support to staff members with Mental Capacity assessments and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Experience in completing s42 investigations
  • Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding adults as per the Care Act 2014
  • Demonstrable understanding of Making Safeguarding Personal
  • Ability to deal with change and confrontation
  • Understanding of continuous quality improvement
  • Understanding of Local, regional and national Safeguarding agenda
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance agenda
  • Understanding of risk management and CQC/NHS/LA standards
  • Demonstrate a patient and carer centred approach
  • Experience of providing training for staff
  • Confident use of IT systems including office programs, email, calendars, spreadsheets and clinical systems.
  • Understanding of current Health Service Priorities
  • Ability to travel between EKHUFT sites
  • To be aware of and adhere to the Trust's Vision, Mission and Values
  • Registered Nurse or registered health or social care professional
  • Degree related to professional role or extensive relevant experience and willingness to undertake further education

o To support and advise staff on issues related to Safeguarding Adults, with occasional attendance at strategy meetings and case conferences.

o Facilitating safeguarding supervision following safeguarding incidents .
