Role summary

This is a 9-month secondment opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic nurse to cover maternity leave on Ward 6A, Cardiology. The role involves providing leadership, support, and guidance to staff in planning, delivering, and evaluating individualized patient care. You will be responsible for monitoring workload and patient acuity to ensure adequate nursing manpower and a safe standard of care. The ideal candidate will be an organized role model, leading by example to provide gold standard care.

Key responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate the ward/department on a day to day basis including planning, allocation and evaluation of work.
  • Provide specialist knowledge to all Nursing staff on the ward/department.
  • Promote a critical, analytical approach to the delivery of nursing care, ensuring the environment is responsive to current issues.
  • Assist in the review and update of procedures and protocols relating to patient care.
  • Develop methods for identifying, maintaining and improving the quality of patient care through best practice and clinical benchmarking.
  • Explore and undertake expanded practice to optimise patient care as required within specialist area.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse, current NMC registration
  • Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent
  • Post registration qualification in speciality
  • Evidence of management experience
  • Evidence of change management
  • Application of evidence based practice
  • Evidence of developing high standards of patient care
  • Lead role in education of staff and patients
  • Application of current nursing issues and healthcare governance
  • Excellent communication skills
