Role summary
This role supports the implementation of the 'Smokefree Generation' ambition by reducing smoking prevalence. The advisor will provide direct stop smoking treatment and advice, build relationships with clinical teams, and design behavioural change programmes. They will also promote tobacco dependence treatment and assist with training and administrative tasks.
Key responsibilities
- Providing and supporting direct delivery of stop smoking treatment, support, and advice in line with NCSCT guidance.
- Confidently advising clinicians, patients and visitors in the treatment of tobacco dependence.
- Building strong and proactive relationships with the clinical community and ward teams.
- Designing and implementing behavioural change programmes that support smoking cessation.
- Promoting and implementing tobacco dependence treatment and health promotion activities across the trust.
- Organising and/or delivering relevant training and education (e.g., VBA and MECC).
Essential criteria
- GCSE 4-9 (A-C) in maths and English
- Health related level 3 achievement or willingness to undertake health related qualification(s)
- Experience applying a wide range of IT skills and demonstrable recent experience of word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and email.
- Experience supporting transformation programmes and projects
- Experience of working well with colleagues and patients/clients/users
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills
- Good communication skills both verbal and written to individuals and groups
- Ability to assist in data collection and analysis
- Good organisation skills
- Ability to develop strong relationships and effective partnership working
- Good interpersonal skills and able to deal with sensitive issues
- Willingness to assist in the development of policy and procedure
- Understand the importance of patient confidentiality

Job summary
West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is to benefit from being on the national New Hospital Programme, with the aim of replacing the West Suffolk Hospital with a brand-new healthcare facility by 2030.
The Tobacco Dependence Adviser will report to the Tobacco Dependence Lead and be responsible for supporting implementation of the 'Smokefree Generation' ambitions. The ambition makes the commitment that smoking prevalence in the population is reduced to less than 5% by 2030.
You will work with the Tobacco Dependence Lead and Tobacco Dependence Team to support delivery of the programme both in the hospital and across the community in line with the national requirements.
