Role summary
This Administrative Assistant role supports the Homeless Intermediate Care Team (HICT) within the Integrated Operations Department. The team provides health and social care support to homeless individuals discharged from hospitals in North Central London. You will provide essential administrative support to both clinical and operational functions, ensuring effective service delivery and coordination. Responsibilities include managing referrals, coordinating meetings, and maintaining accurate records for a multidisciplinary team.
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, with Grade C or above in English and Maths.
- Knowledge of the full range of administrative procedures, acquired through training and previous experience of working in an administrative and/or clinical environment.
- Awareness of the requirement to maintain confidentiality, and knowledge of the Data Protection Act.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Level 4 in Business Administration, Customer Service, Healthcare Support Services or equivalent qualification.
- Experience of working in a non-routine environment, with demonstrable evidence of problem solving and resolving issues as they arise
- Experience of working in a customer facing environment, resolving queries and using initiative to ensure first-class service delivery
- Previous NHS experience or experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Experience of using patient information systems
- Skills and Abilities
- Able to compile and track data
- Able to deal with sensitive information with tact, diplomacy and understanding.
- Understanding of multidisciplinary team working
- Ability to embrace change and work in new models of care

Job summary
Working within the Integrated Operations Department, you will join the Homeless Intermediate Care Team (HICT), part of the North Central London (NCL) Out of Hospital Care Model (OOHCM). The OOHCM provides health and social care support, alongside temporary accommodation, for people experiencing homelessness following discharge from hospital. The service aims to break the cycle of individuals being discharged back onto the streets, leading to repeated presentations at emergency departments.
The Homeless Intermediate Care Team supports patients discharged from UCLH, Royal Free, and Whittington Hospitals, including those placed within Discharge to Assess (D2A) Pathway 2 step-down beds. The team delivers case management, assessment, treatment coordination, and assertive signposting to community-based services for a time-limited period outside of the hospital setting. The service works with adults who are homeless, rough sleepers, those at risk of rough sleeping, and individuals with no recourse to public funds (NRPF).
