Role summary
This is a rewarding and varied role for an organised and proactive Medical Secretary to join the Paediatric service. You will provide a comprehensive and professional administrative service to the multidisciplinary team, acting as a key point of contact for patients, clinicians, and external organisations. The role involves ensuring smooth, efficient, and patient-focused pathways of care. Key responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive administrative service and support operational activity across Paediatrics.
- Deliver a complete medical administrative service including patient correspondence, copy and audio typing, editing letters, and RTT data entry.
- Act as the first point of contact, answering telephone enquiries, taking messages, and disseminating key information.
- Assist in patient treatment by updating databases and computer systems, and ensuring prompt referrals to other healthcare professionals.
- Arrange, cancel, and reschedule appointments, manage waiting lists, and book follow-up appointments.
- Scan and upload clinical information to keep electronic medical records up to date and retrieve results from in-house systems.
Essential criteria
- Post-GCSE qualification e.g. A level, Advanced apprenticeship, NVQ 3 or equivalent experience

- Typing qualification or experience
- Knowledge & Experience
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge of office and administrative processes
- Experience within the NHS or similar health care setting
- Specific Skills
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications e.g. Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and other software: Adobe, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome
- Qualifications & Training
