Role summary
This role is for a Band 6 Specialist Audiologist/Clinical Scientist in Audiology, based at Withington Community Hospital and Wythenshawe Hospital, with occasional cross-site working. The post involves delivering comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitation services for complex adult and paediatric patients. Responsibilities include assessing and managing complex needs, undertaking clinical work within a multidisciplinary team, and participating in quality improvement initiatives and audits. The role also involves training and mentoring students and contributing to research projects.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver a comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitation service for AQP and non-AQP patients.
- Assess and manage adults with complex needs, including cognitive decline and learning disabilities.
- Conduct paediatric hearing assessments as part of ENT clinics.
- Be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual treatment programmes.
- Undertake a broad range of clinical work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in clinical audits, research, supervision of practice, and teaching for junior staff, students, and assistant practitioners.
Essential criteria
- MSc Audiology or equivalent professional qualification
- Registered as one of the following (or eligible for registration): ? HCPC as a Clinical Scientist ? AHCS as a Healthcare Scientist
Desirable criteria
- BAA Higher Training Scheme Certificate of Clinical Competence in service area, or equivalent (Balance,Paediatrics, Hearing Therapy)
- British Sign language level 1 or equivalent
- Accredited training and CPD for wax removal
- Leadership Qualification - Edward Jenner or equivalent
- Knowledge & Experience
- Post qualification experience in service areas
- Complex Adult assessment and rehabiltation
- Assessment of Adults with cognitive decline/learning disabilities.
- Assisting in vestibular clinics/vestibular training post grad or during career
- Paediatric hearing assessement
- Significant experience of working in an NHS setting (or equivalent)
- Experience of involvement in service developments
- Experience of initiating audit projects
- Mentoring of audiology trainees
- Supervision of audiology trainees
- Key and nterpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills to enable building good rapports with colleagues and patients
- Good leadership skills

Job summary
We are seeking to recruit Band 6 Specialist Audiologist/Clinical Scientist in Audiology to work in the Audiology Department based at Withington Community Hospital and Wythenshawe Hospital but there may be cross site working with North Manchester Audiology on occasion. The role involves specialist hearing and diagnostic clinics.
The Department is comprised of a Audiology Service Manager, Clinical and Operational Lead, Adult, Therapy, Paediatric & Adult Cognitive and Vestibular leads, Clinical Scientists, Audiologists, Associate and Assistant practitioners, Students and 4 administration staff.
There is opportunity for CPD, and this is strongly encouraged.
Main duties of the job
To deliver a comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitation service for AQP and non-AQP patients using investigative and analytical skills to include:
Assessment and hearing management of adults with complex needs including cognitive decline and learning disabilities.
