Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for motivated Registered Nurses to join the Oncology Critical Care Unit (OCCU) at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The OCCU is an 8-bed unit providing Level 2 and Level 3 support for patients with complex cancer-related conditions. As a Staff Nurse, you will deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care to critically ill patients as part of a multidisciplinary team. The role offers structured development opportunities and is suitable for both experienced nurses and those new to critical care.
Key responsibilities
- Assess and prioritize the needs of critically ill patients and their families, including those requiring respiratory and cardiovascular support.
- Ensure accurate documentation of patient care and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Evaluate nursing care, inform senior staff of patient's changing needs, and act as a role model by demonstrating competent skills.
- Participate in internal rotation to night duty and prepare patients for safe transfer to other critical care areas or ward areas.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe clinical environment, supervise and develop learners, and participate in ongoing education and professional development.
- Take charge of the unit when appropriate, in the absence of a Band 6/Unit Sister, ensuring standards of care and unit management are maintained.
Essential criteria
- RGN Level 1 or 2
- Degree or Diploma in Health Care Studies
- Qualified Registered Nurse
- Good communication skills
- Ability to delver high standard of nursing care
- Computer literacy
- Understanding need for evidence based practice
- Participate in personal development
- Ability to demonstrate the organisational values and behaviours
- Rotation to night duty
- Team player
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate certificate in teaching and assessing
- Certificate or qualification in Critical Care or equivalent level of experience
- Previous Oncology experience
- Previous Critical Care experience.
