Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join the LD-CAMHS team. The role involves supporting children and young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities who are experiencing mental health needs and challenging behaviours. The post holder will provide assessment and treatment interventions, including evidence-based mental health interventions, and participate in the team's Challenging Behaviour Intervention. They will work within a dedicated multi-disciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

  • Assess the mental and emotional health needs of children and young people referred to Learning Disability CAMHS with complex problems.
  • Develop and implement therapeutic interventions and specialist programmes of care.
  • Work within specialist Learning Disability CAMHS to assess and treat children and young people (up to their 18th birthday) with mental health needs and a learning disability.
  • Undertake mental health assessments of patients with complex problems/needs, including those with a psychiatric diagnosis or co-morbidity/dual diagnosis.
  • Provide evidence-based care packages.
  • Co-work with other members of the LD CAMHS to develop the service and care, including setting up and running groups.

Essential criteria

  • Degree and State Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Has worked as a qualified OT within the designated service area
  • Broad knowledge of current best practice in O.T. with reference to Learning Disabilities and CAMHS.

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and forward thinking Occupational Therapist who can work flexibly. The post holder will join our LD-CAMHS team supporting children and young people with moderate to severe learning disability who are experiencing a range of mental health needs/ behaviours of concern, and their families.

We are particularly interested in practitioners who are experienced in assessing and identifying strategies to help support young people with their sensory profiles. In addition to providing Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment interventions there will be an expectation that the post holder use evidence based mental health interventions and participate in the teams Challenging Behaviour Intervention to ensure variety and the ability to practice fully as a CAMHS practitioner.

The post holder will work with a dedicated and supportive multi-disciplinary team made up of nursing, psychiatry and psychology and will accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload.
