Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with leadership interest and experience in respiratory and surgical care to join the Surgery team as a Clinical Team Lead. The role involves combined clinical leadership and management, working across various units including Respiratory, Surgery, Vascular wards, Intensive Care, and High Dependency units. The successful candidate will contribute to quality improvement, service development, and audit, while also developing leadership skills. Advanced planning, organisation, communication, and expert clinical skills are essential for managing the team and providing high standards of therapeutic assessment and treatment.
Key responsibilities
- Organise and oversee the running of the Surgery team, ensuring appropriate skill mix and adequate staffing.
- Be accountable for the production of rosters, supervision, appraisals, job plans, and staff support and development.
- Be responsible for team and department service improvements, recruitment, development of procedures, and audit.
- Provide high standards of therapeutic assessment and treatment as an autonomous practitioner on all surgical wards.
- Support the immediate therapy team on surgery and oversee the quality of the clinical caseload.
- Provide staff development and training programmes, including supervision, appraisals, and staff competencies.
Essential criteria
- Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy
- Health Care Professional Council registration
- Evidence of professional development and regular study since qualification
- Practice/clinical Educator
Desirable criteria
- Management or supervision qualification
- Member of CSP
- Knowledge and Training
- Participation in service development
- Skilled practitioner who can act as a role model in both clinical and non-clinical setting
- Member of local/national special interest group
- Relevant validated clinical courses/MSc modules
- Significant experience as Band 6 practitioner
- Experience in wide range of clinical areas, and demonstrates ability to work as specialist in clinical area
- Experience in clinical and non-clinical supervision of staff members
- Evidence of supervision of students
- Previous participation in audit
- Knowledge of clinical governance and its application
- Evidence of IT skills
- Experience in research
- Experience in policy development and implementation
- Experience of implementing change within a team/service

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist who has an interest in leadership, management and has existing experience in respiratory and surgical care to join our Surgery team as a Clinical Team Lead.
The successful candidate will work alongside the current Team Leads and will be responsible for combined clinical leadership and management of the team. There will be the opportunity to work across the Respiratory, Surgery, Vascular wards and the Intensive Care and High Dependency units ensuring excellent clinical care. The role will allow experience of quality improvement initiatives, service development projects and audit as well as progression of leadership skills.
You will need to demonstrate advanced planning, organisation, and communication skills, managing the team on a daily basis but also expert clinical skills.
