Role summary

This role is for a Clinical Lead within the Urgent Care Services Crisis Team. The post holder will be responsible for promoting high standards of nursing care, providing senior clinical support and advice to team members, and coordinating the team from a clinical perspective. They will ensure excellent care delivery, manage complex cases, and lead communication processes with various stakeholders. The role also involves safeguarding, discharge planning, and fostering effective partnership working.

Key responsibilities

  • Has responsibility for the promotion and assistance in the maintenance of the highest attainable standards of nursing care provided by the teams.
  • Provides senior clinical support and advice to the team members ensuring they are visible to all staff to provide clinical leadership.
  • Has the lead role of coordinating the team from a clinical perspective across a 7-day week, including clinical supervision, group supervision and MDT reviews.
  • You will ensure that the care delivered is excellent and in keeping with the most up to date guidelines and best practice.
  • To take an advisory and supervisory role in partnership with the clinical team in managing complex cases.
  • Deliver clinical supervision, training and clinical development to team members.

Essential criteria

  • RNMH current professional registration with NMC
  • Professional knowledge acquired through a degree supplemented by postgraduate diploma specialist training, experience, short courses or specialist training
  • ENB 998 or other NMC approved mentor qualification
  • Qualification in non-medical prescribing or willingness to undertake within agreed timescale.
  • Demonstrable post registration experience at a Band 6 level or above within Community Adult Mental Health Services.
  • Experience working with patients with complex needs and high-risk behaviours in the specialist field.
  • Experience of MDT working
  • Skills in coordinating and planning interagency approaches in mental health care.
  • Experience of assessing and managing risk.
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision.
  • Quality Improvement and developing practice standards.
  • Ability to use initiative and work without immediate supervision.
  • To demonstrate effective leadership skills and act as a positive role model.
  • Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding, empathic approach.
  • Excellent report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-professional team.
  • Excellent assessment skills, including risk assessment, to provide nurse led diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Understanding of the importance of user/carer involvement in care planning.
  • Detailed understanding of Safeguarding.
  • Good understanding of Clinical Governance
  • Good knowledge of the legal framework and statutory obligations under the Mental Health Act.

  • Psychological therapy skills eg. CBT/DBT/ACT
  • Ability to work in a changing environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of the roles of other professionals working within mental health.
  • Ability to elaborate on the transition of personal and professional skills into practice.

Main duties of the job

To work with carers/family members as necessary to provide a thorough bio psychosocial assessment of their needs. Carers and significant others will be involved where appropriate in collection of risk information and in the development of a management plan.

To take an advisory and supervisory role in partnership with the clinical team in managing complex cases.

To lead and present complex, sensitive, and challenging clinical and professional communication proces
