Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse to join CITOP (Crisis and Intervention Team for Older People) as a Clinical Lead. The role involves providing specialist assessment, intervention, and support to older people experiencing mental health crisis, operating within a 24-hour, 7-day service. The Clinical Lead will provide leadership, support staff development, and contribute to service improvement, working alongside the Team Leader to shape the future direction of CITOP.

Essential criteria

  • Advanced/expert clinical qualification
  • Accredited leadership/management qualification or ability to demonstrate these at an advanced level
  • Member of specialist interest group/network, locally or nationally
  • Specialist/advanced understanding/application of relevant managerial and leadership aspects of the service area
  • Detailed understanding of all current legislation relevant to the service area
  • Evidence of contribution to research
  • Evidence of policy implementation and development
  • Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, drivers and their application to clinical and service areas within community health services , e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion, Safeguarding Adults
  • Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within community services
  • Good IT skills e.g. knowledge of word and excel
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to the service area Evidence of project work that has had a positive impact on service delivery

Job summary

CITOP provides specialist assessment, intervention and support to older people experiencing mental health crisis. As part of the service, the Acute Community Service (ACS) delivers intensive community-based interventions, providing an alternative to hospital admission and supporting people to remain in their own homes wherever possible. Following recent service development and investment, CITOP now operates as a 24-hour, 7-day service and continues to evolve in response to the changing needs of our population.

Building on strong foundations, we are committed to maintaining high standards of care whilst continuing to develop and enhance our service for older people, their families and carers. As we move forward, focus remains on delivering responsive, person-centred care that aligns with local priorities and the national vision for community-based mental health services.
