Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the paediatric respiratory multidisciplinary team. The role involves providing expert care for children and young people with respiratory neurodisability and their families, managing a specialist caseload, and coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will work autonomously and collaboratively, offering clinical leadership and specialist advice throughout the patient's care journey. The position is based at The Royal London Hospital, a tertiary referral centre for specialist paediatric services.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage a defined caseload of patients with respiratory neurodisability.
- Undertake comprehensive clinical assessments, documenting findings and identifying deteriorating conditions.
- Coordinate the Respiratory Neurodisability Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) clinic.
- Develop, implement, and review personalised respiratory care and escalation plans.
- Prescribe and coordinate oxygen therapy, working with community teams for home support.
Essential criteria
- oRSCN / RN (Child)
- oDegree in Nursing BSc
- oSpecialist course in respiratory nursing.
- oEvidence of professional development and leadership training.
- oMentorship/Teaching qualification
- oLevel 3 safeguarding training
- oSignificant post registration experience of working with children with a respiratory illness
- oExperience of caseload management.
- oExperience of caring for children with neurodisability and an understanding of their respiratory and complex needs.
- oExperience of working with students and facilitating their learning needs.
- oKnowledge and understanding of safeguarding processes
- oAbility to work as part of a multi-disciplinary.
- oAbility to work within nursing teams to ensure good clinical/non-clinical outcomes.
- oAbility to communicate with patients and their families in an empathetic manner regarding their treatment and procedures.
- oDemonstrate the ability to work independently as well as work within a wider MDT/multi-agency team in a complex and changing environment.
- oCompetent IT skills use of Excel Word PowerPoint

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 0.75 WTE (28 hours a week) Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our paediatric respiratory multidisciplinary team, working across the Children's Hospital, including the general and respiratory wards and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
The post holder will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality, expert care for children and young people with respiratory neurodisability and their families. They will manage a specialist caseload of children who require respiratory support as part of their neurodisability and who meet the service's referral criteria. The role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams to coordinate care, optimise resources, and ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
Working both autonomously and collaboratively, the successful candidate will provide expert clinical leadership, specialist advice, and practical support to children, young people, and their families throughout their care journey.
