Role summary
This role is for a Paediatric Medical Secretary Team Leader at Queen's Hospital Burton. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive medical secretarial services to a Consultant and clinical team, while also leading and supervising the Medical Secretary Team and Paediatric Outpatient Reception Service. It requires a proactive individual with excellent communication skills to manage workloads, support staff, and contribute to service development. The post holder will work closely with Consultants and the Paediatric Management Team to ensure high-quality administrative services.
Essential criteria
- A good standard of English to GCSE or equivalent RSA/OCR level III or equivalent knowledge and skills.
- Previous experience working in an administrative / support secretary role and understanding of medical terminology.
- Advanced level of IT literacy with experience of using a range of IT applications.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ III in Business Administration or equivalent knowledge and skills.
- Secretary experience within a healthcare setting.
- Experience and Knowledge
- Provides performance reports for management team.
- An understanding of the 18-week RTT process and a knowledge of the Trust Patient Access Policy and an agreement to adhered to these policies according to National Trust Guidelines, as appropriate to role.

- Ability to plan, organise and prioritise own workload effectively
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict Trust deadlines.
- Ensure accuracy of patient correspondence and filing systems as per Trust Policies.

- Experience of communicating medical information within an NHS setting, written and verbally to patients, and staff clinical or non-clinical staff.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Paediatric Medical Secretary Team Leader at Queen's Hospital Burton.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to combine the provision of a comprehensive medical secretarial service for an allocated Consultant and clinical team with day-to-day leadership of the Medical Secretary Team and Paediatric outpatient Reception Service.
The successful candidate will act as the team lead for administrative services within the department, supporting a team of medical secretaries and reception staff to deliver a high-quality, responsive, and patient-focused service. Working closely with Consultants, the Operational Coordinator and the Paediatric Management Team, the post holder will provide first-line management support, coordinate workloads, oversee staffing arrangements and contribute to the ongoing development of administrative services.
