Role summary
This role involves providing 24-hour emergency electrical and mechanical engineering, and building maintenance services at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. The post holder will maintain complex systems, plant, and equipment, including steam raising plant, air conditioning, and LV systems. They will also respond to emergency situations, participate in the Trust Fire and Chemical Incident Teams, and ensure essential services are maintained.
Essential criteria
- HNC / ONC or equivalent qualification / experience in Electrical Engineering related discipline.
- Qualified in line with 18th Edition
- Qualified to City and Guilds.
Desirable criteria
- Hold a current and clean driving licence
- Knowledge of BMS, UPS, Fire and other systems.
- Ability to interpret detailed reports / instructions/ drawings. Capable writing reports, collating data, and presenting statistically analysed information.
- Experience and knowledge of NHS Estates function and operational.
- Special Knowledge / Skills
- Able to delegate and prioritise own workload and staff under direct management.
- Has interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Ability to engage with and manage contractors working on site ensuring Health and Safety and Trust policies are adhered to.
- Able to plan at an operational level.
- Able to process information to logical order.

- General Health
- Working in confined spaces, cramped conditions, with contaminated equipment and high temperature, hazardous areas.
- Capable of working in maintenance and on construction sites.
- Physically fit, active, and have the ability to pass preemployment medical screening

The Estates Shift Team is responsible for providing 24-hour on-site emergency cover and a comprehensive electrical and mechanical engineering, and building maintenance service, to the plant and equipment on the Blackpool Victoria Hospital Site. This will involve working with trade groups and contractors' staff to provide a professional, efficient and cost-effective maintenance, repair and installation service, which is responsive to the user's needs and will involve the planning and organising of maintenance activities. Out of normal working hours the Estates Shift Team has sole responsibility for ensuring that all departments essential services are maintained at all times, or an Estates Manager informed.
