Role summary
This role is for a registered Midwife with a passion for research delivery, specifically in Maternity and Neonatology. You will join the Reproductive Health and Children's research team, facilitating a range of studies to improve women's and children's health outcomes. The position requires autonomous work while contributing to a wider team, with opportunities to develop a portfolio of studies. You will ensure clinical trials adhere to NMC guidelines and Good Clinical Practice, supporting all aspects of study protocols.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure clinical trials and research studies are undertaken following Nursing and Midwifery council guidelines and Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP).
- Support all aspects of study protocols, with supervision and agreed competencies.
- Assist study lead Nurses/Midwives and multidisciplinary team members in delivering agreed protocols to time and targets.
- Work independently undertaking nursing/midwifery care activities and perform interventions within clinical trials specific protocols.
- Establish and manage a small portfolio of studies, with cross-cover for the wider team's portfolio.
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife with current valid NMC registration
- Interested in research in Maternity and Neonatal Care
- Ability to work autonomously using own initiative and also as part of a team; as well as part of the wide multidisciplinary team
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to organise and plan
- Post Registration Experience in Midwifery and/or neonatal care
- Experience of supervising staff/ students
- Evidence of accuracy of detail in data collection
- Full understanding of research governance issues
- Understanding of the clinical research delivery process
- Competent in standard IT packages
- Broad based clinical nursing and Midwifery skills
- Advanced interpersonal and communication skills
- High level of organisation and time management skills
Desirable criteria
- Mentoring Qualification
- International Conference on Harmonisation, Good Clinical Practice up to date
- Neonatal QIS qualification
- Car Driver and access to a vehicle
- Able to be flexible to needs of service
- Experience of Clinical Trials
- Experience in staff training at different levels
- Ability to integrate nursing knowledge and skills with the research aspects of the job.
- Advanced clinical skills (e.g. ECG).
