Role summary
This role is for an experienced Nursery Nurse to join the Kingfisher Mother and Baby Unit at NSFT. You will support mothers with perinatal mental health problems in caring for their babies, ensuring their emotional and physical needs are met, and promoting the mother-infant relationship. The position involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality, tailored interventions in maternal mental health and attachment-based approaches.
Essential criteria
- CACHE level 3
- Diploma in Childcare & Education (NNEB)
- Diploma in Childcare Studies (BTEC)
- NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education
Desirable criteria
- Video Interactive Guidance
- Experience of working within community services
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience of delivery groups
- Experience of delivering training
- Experience of working within a Perinatal Mental health Services
- Working with Service Users with mental health needs
- Competent clinical skills i.e. assessment, therapeutic interventions.
- Excellent communication skills with service users and other professionals, both oral and written
- Able to make autonomous decisions using judgement and to work effectively as part of a MDT.
- Ability to work without direct supervision and access regular supervision.
- Competent teaching skills
- Skills in group work
- Planning and organising skills for caseload management
- Knowledge around the effect of perinatal mental health presentations and how this would impact on care of baby
- Other

As a Nursery Nurse, you will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team providing quality services for patients who are admitted to the Kingfisher Mother and Baby Unit, under the supervision of a registered professional.
Your role will be to assist mothers with perinatal mental health problems to care for their babies, ensure that the emotional and physical needs of the babies are met and engage in activities to promote the mother-infant relationship.
As a team, we are all committed to making a difference to the lives of our service users, their babies, and families in the antenatal period and for up to two years following birth.
Main duties of the job
The Kingfisher Mother and Unit provides inpatient care for the management of mental health problems that complicate pregnancy and the postpartum year. We work closely with other mental health services, jointly supporting women.
