Role summary
This Ward Manager position is based at the Linden Centre on Finchingfield Ward, an 18-bed male acute mental health treatment ward. The role involves overseeing care assessments, developing and evaluating care programmes for service users with mental health needs. The post holder will work autonomously under the supervision of the Clinical Manager/Matron and participate in training and education for learners.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee assessments of care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care for service users.
- Set objectives for care delivery in liaison with senior management and devise monitoring methods.
- Ensure full compliance with Trust policies and relevant legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act 1983).
- Report and investigate incidents, complaints, and accidents, ensuring documentation is completed.
- Lead on infection control within the ward and ensure adherence to Trust policies.
- Liaise with Human Resources to manage staff concerns following appropriate policies.
Essential criteria
- Registered RMN
- Experience as deputy Ward Manager or equivalent
- Evidence of personal and professional development
- Ability to set clear objectives and targets and motivate staff to achieve them
- Ability to seek ways of improving individuals performance but training, coaching and development
- Develop team spirit and inclusivity
Desirable criteria
- Educated to Degree level in health
- Additional Professional Qualification
- Evidence of personal leadership development

Job summary
The post holder will be a Ward Manager based within the Linden Centre on Finchingfield Ward.
Finchingfield Ward is an 18-bed male acute mental health treatment ward which provides psychiatric assessment, inpatient care, and treatment for men experiencing acute mental health difficulties
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for overseeing the assessments of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for service users with mental health needs. The post holder works under the overall management supervision of the Clinical Manager/Matron and is required to undertake the duties of the post autonomously, but with support. Active participation will be required in the training and education of learners allocated to the ward, and will also encourage integration between the ward teams and the community services.
To carry out any other duties commensurate with the duties of this post. This is an outline job description and may be subject to change according to the needs of the service, in consultation with the post holder.
