Role summary
This role is for a Band 5 Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to join the Pain Management Centre at Charing Cross Hospital. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day care for outpatients undergoing pain-relieving procedures, working in both the procedure room and recovery area. It involves supporting the pain consultant team and contributing to the efficient running of the clinic. The position offers career development within a dynamic work environment, potentially involving cross-site working.
Key responsibilities
- Provide high quality, effective, individualised care to all patients attending services provided by the pain management clinics.
- Assist in the daily management of the day-case procedure list, working in the purpose-built theatre and recovery area.
- Be responsible for the efficient and timely running of the clinic by ensuring safety of patients and the maintenance of equipment and clinic supplies.
- Participate in nurse-led Qutenza, clinical audit processes, and patient feedback that will support work and relationships within the pain service.
- Help support cross-working within the Directorate.
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse / Operating Department Practitioner
- Ability to practice within the scope of the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council/Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Degree
- Evidence of both Postoperative Recovery and Operating Theatre work experience
- Assess the patients' nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care to ensure the delivery of effective patient care.
- Ensure the principles set out in the Fundamentals of Care are incorporated into daily practice to ensure a high-quality service for the patients and clients.
- Maintain patients nursing records to ensure information is accurate and up to date
- Participate in service development by contributing to the development of team, through unit/department meetings, audit and research.
- Ability to organise clinic activities and to use initiative when facing challenges
- Ability to solve problems and contribute to new ideas, generating discussion and a positive workplace
- Basic Quality Improvement/audit cycle, data collection knowledge and application
- Able to meet the requirements of the role based on Functional Requirements with reasonable adjustments
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of educational development within pain management
- Standards for student supervision and assessment SSSA (NMC)
- Relevant experience act as a supervisor mentor or assessor for students or Healthcare support workers.
- Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to development of others.
- Evidence of previous experience in pain management
- Evidence of regular Teaching skills and practice
- Able to manage difficult situations

The ideal candidate will join our team contributing to the day-to-day care of outpatients undergoing invasive, pain-relieving procedures, working in both the procedure room and recovery area, supporting our pain consultant team.
