Role summary

This Senior Dental Nurse role involves assisting and supporting dental treatment and health promotion for patients with special needs across Coventry & Warwickshire. The post also requires assisting the Dental Service Management Team in ensuring effective and safe dental facilities. A key aspect is supporting the organisation, monitoring, and evaluation of dental care services. Additionally, the role includes line managing dental nurse staff, conducting appraisals, clinical supervision, and managing sickness and leave.

Key responsibilities

  • Undertake the normal duties expected of all dental nurses.
  • Work with the policies and procedures of the Trust and Coventry & Warwickshire Community Dental Service.
  • To support specialised treatment services for adults and children with special needs within the clinic, theatres and domiciliary settings.
  • To support the provision of treatment under general anaesthesia for special needs patients, and paediatric dental extractions.
  • To support the provision of treatment under sedation where appropriate.
  • Liaise with all branches of the profession, other health professionals, education and social services and voluntary agencies over the dental needs and service provision for people with special needs.

Essential criteria

  • National Certificate for Dental Nurses or similar
  • Registered with the GDC
  • Additional Post-Certification Qualifications
  • Working with patients with special care requirements, medically compromised, phobic and high risk
  • Car driver / Owner willing to travel and work across all Coventry & Warwickshire Dental sites.
  • Knowledge of a range of specialist Dental procedures
  • Good organisational and time management skills
