Role summary
This role is for a Special School Nurse who will lead safeguarding for the Islington School Nursing team. The post holder will independently manage a caseload of children and young people attending Alternative Provisions and those Elective Home Educated. Responsibilities include conducting health assessments, delivering health promotion sessions, and managing individual cases with safeguarding concerns. The nurse will collaborate with children, young people, parents/carers, and staff to plan interventions and facilitate referrals to other agencies.
Essential criteria
- School nurse: Professional Qualification. 3rd part of the NMC register
- Educated to MSc. PG Level or equivalent

- High levels of clinical skills with the ability to identify, respond and evaluate health needs

- Evidence of ability to work across agencies to support a whole systems approach
- Excellent communications skills both IT and written
- Evidence of identification of assessing the children and families experiencing the different school environment
- Knowledge and experience

- Knowlegde of current legislation and national guidance relating to all aspects of the Healthy Child Programme

Job summary
The post holder will be the lead for safeguarding in the Islington School Nursing team; working independently to manage a designated caseload of children and young people attending the Alternative Provisions (AP) in Islington and the Elected Home Educated (EHE) caseload.The post holder will be expected to complete initial health assessments for all children and young people registered with the respective services; deliver one-one and/or group sessions on a range of health promotion topics, particularly relating to lifestyle choices; deliver the core Healthy Child Programme (0-19),in line with mainstream school nursing.The post holder will carry individual cases of children needing direct support and monitoring including safeguarding concerns. The post holder will work closely with children, young people, parents/carers and staff within the AP/EHE teams in planning interventions and supporting referral on to other agencies where necessary.
Main duties of the job
1.To be the named school nurse for the Alterative Provisions in Islington and Elective Home Educated Caseload.
