Role summary
This role is for a motivated and enthusiastic Healthcare Support Worker to join the Older Persons Mental Health Team in Portsmouth. You will support older people with mental health conditions, including dementia, by visiting them in their homes and monitoring their progress. The position involves working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, requiring strong communication skills and a willingness to learn. Full training and development will be provided, making it suitable for those new to healthcare.
Essential criteria
- Completed care certificate, in the process or willingness to work towards the care certificate.
- If you are new to Health Care we will place you on a HCSW induction programme to ensure that you are fully trained and supported to perform the role. The programme will last for up to 6 months and during this period of training you will be paid a salary of £25272. On completion of your training period your salary will rise to £25760 as per the advert.

- Level 2 qualification or equivalent in a relevant area gained through experience, on the job training, short courses and completion of work-based competencies.
- Good basic education or GCSE in English and Maths.
- Experience in a community setting
- Working within a multidisciplinary team

Job summary
Older Persons Mental Health Team in Portsmouth are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Health Care Support Worker to join our friendly and supportive team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of older people and is keen to develop a career in mental health services. Previous experience in older adult mental health is welcomed but not essential, as full support, training and development will be provided to the right candidate.
We are looking for someone who is caring, compassionate and eager to learn. An interest in working with older adults and supporting patients and their families is essential. You will gain experience in caring for people living with dementia and other mental health conditions, while developing your understanding of physical health, frailty and holistic patient care.
You will work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, visiting patients in their own homes, monitoring progress and treatments, and helping to ensure they receive high quality care and support. Strong communication skills, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn are more important than previous experience.
