Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with lived experience of receiving care from mental health services and complex emotional needs. The role involves drawing on personal recovery experiences to support service users on a one-to-one and group basis, helping them identify goals and achieve personalised recovery. This is a specialised peer worker role, not a general support worker position, focusing on enhancing approaches and supporting individuals in their personal recovery journey.
Key responsibilities
- Draw upon lived experience to enhance approaches offered to service users to support their recovery.
- Support people in their personal recovery by helping them to identify their strengths, values and aspirations.
- Work with people in public places, and a range of community settings; building & maintaining safe and effective relationships.
- Contribute to the collaborative planning and review of Recovery Support the use of psychological strategies.
- Help service users engage with and build connections & a sense of belonging to their local communities and meaningful activities.
- Co-produce and deliver training & assist in the audit & evaluation of services provided.
Essential criteria
- Lived experience of complex emotional needs associated with diagnoses such as Bi-polar, EUPD or CPTSD
- Knowledge of mental health and associated difficulties, including primary and secondary health & social care in relation to recovery principles and practice.
- Knowledge of the philosophy and principles of co-production and service user and carer led recovery initiatives.
- Awareness of the impact of stigma and discrimination and knowledge of trauma-informed care.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
- Good IT skills, including some knowledge of and skills in the use of Microsoft Office software programs, e.g. Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Genuine passion for working with people who experience mental health conditions specific to the service
- NVQ level 3 qualification in Care or mental health certificate level 3 OR educated to GCSE level in Maths and English Language, or equivalent
- Willingness to undertake any further training as required.
- oDirect experience of using mental health or voluntary services and ability to use this experience positively in the role and be willing and able to share one's own personal recovery to help others.
- oPersonal experience of recovery and being in a supportive and enabling role.
- oExperience of being with people who use mental health services and some experience of supporting them with their recovery.
- oAbility to work flexibly to meet the needs of the role, and to cope with changing situations, needs and demands and a varying timetable of work.
- oAbility to develop and maintain safe and effective therapeutic recovery relationships.
- oCommitment to recovery philosophy and values.
- oWilling to travel within a geographical area in a timely and effective manner.
- oGenuine passion for working with people who experience mental health conditions specific to the service
- oAbility to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of relevant legislation
- oExperience of providing training and / or group work.
- oExperience of working in the health or voluntary sector and/ or partnership working.
- oExperience of working in a community facing role.
- oExperience of working in a team or a group environment.
- oWide range of life experiences to bring an enabling and positive view of opportunities for others.

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated & enthusiastic individual with lived experience of receiving care from mental health services and lived experience of complex emotional needs ( often associated with the mental health diagnoses of BPD, EUPD or CPTSD).
The role will require you to draw on your own experiences, insights and skills developed through your own recovery to come alongside people using services. This will be on a one-to-one and group basis to explore people's own goals & personalised recovery.
Please note that this is a specialised peer worker role and is not a general support worker role.
