Role summary
This role involves coordinating patient flow and bed capacity within Southampton Children's Hospital. You will ensure timely patient care, manage bed allocation, and support the safe movement of patients. The position requires working closely with clinical and operational teams to maintain patient safety and efficient resource use. You will report to the Operations Manager and proactively respond to changing demands.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate patient flow across Southampton Children's Hospital service.
- Ensure beds are used effectively and patients are moved safely and promptly.
- Work closely with the Emergency Department, Regional Hospitals, and clinical teams to support timely admissions.
- Maintain oversight of bed capacity and anticipated demand.
- Proactively identify pressures and work with colleagues to resolve barriers to patient flow.
Essential criteria
- GCSE English and Maths minimum grade C, or equivalent qualification
- Educated to vocational level 3 or an equivalent qualification level or relevant work-based experience / training
- Detailed knowledge of secretarial and administrative procedures and systems in order to resolve many non-routine issues.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and organisational policies / procedures in order to resolve problems or to develop and/or refine procedures.
- Experience of working in a busy environment
- Experience of dealing with complex situations
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and on own initiative
- Demonstrates clarity and breadth in use of verbal and written communications in relation to our patient group
- Ability to quickly form good working relationships with staff at all levels of seniority

- Evidence of continuing personal/professional development
- Previous experience working in an acute hospital setting

Main duties of the job
