Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse to support the Emergency Department. The role is vital for the safe running of the ED, requiring passion for ED nursing, a forward-thinking approach, and a can-do attitude. You will provide leadership, organise patient care, and support junior staff, while also assisting the Band 7 team with managerial and HR issues. The role offers a dynamic nursing team environment with strong peer support and educational opportunities.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the safe running of the Emergency Department.
  • Organise and prioritise patient care to ensure maximum flow through the department.
  • Provide support and advice to junior members of the team and/or students.
  • Support the Band 7 team to provide managerial support, including HR issues, Workforce, and change management.
  • Influence and affect emergency care as a senior member of the team.

Essential criteria

  • At least 3 years at Band 5 or equivalent
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Registered Nurse (Level 1)
  • Insight into clinical speciality
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Clinical leadership

Desirable criteria

  • Awareness of national targets
  • Recruitment and selection

Job summary

The role of the Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse is vital to the safe running of an ED. You will be passionate about ED nursing, be forward thinking, with a can-do attitude.

You will also have excellent leadership and communication skills. You will need to have high standards for ensuring patients receive quality care and have a good experience whilst in the ED.
