Role summary
This is a fixed-term, part-time Band 7 Clinical Psychologist role within child and adolescent psychological services at UCLH. The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment across paediatric inpatient and outpatient services. They will offer advice and consultation to non-psychologist colleagues and other carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines. The role involves working with children and young people affected by chronic health conditions and contributing to systemic consultation and various psychological therapies.
Essential criteria
- Honours degree in psychology or related disciplines, and a Doctorate and/or PhD level in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) (acquired as part of the clinical training).
- Registered Practitioner Psychologist by the HPC.
- High-level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
- Skills in the use of complex methods of neuropsychological assessment, intervention and management
- Knowledge of specialised assessment and therapeutic approaches in a Specialist Paediatric Service.
- Ability to make diagnostic decisions, give second opinions and make differential diagnoses as part of multidisciplinary assessments.
- Knowledge of research methodology, research design and data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
- Experience of working with children and young people living with long term health conditions
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and neuropsychological assessments and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including community, primary care, outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
- Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- Experience of working with and promoting diversity.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
- Ability to work with interpreters.

- Previous experience of research indicating the ability to conduct research autonomously, with supervision as required.
- Ability to critique and evaluate scientific data and best practice clinical guidelines.
- Advanced IT skills (including video editing, word processing, spreadsheets, statistical packages).

Job summary
Band 7 Clinical Psychologist (15 hrs per week)
To work as a clinician in child and adolescent psychological services at UCLH with specific responsibility for supporting inpatient and outpatient paediatric psychology services. The post holder will provide a specialist psychological assessment and treatment service across paediatrics. This is a fixed term temporary role.
The post holder will offer advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.On the UCH site, there are acute and general paediatric services to the district in addition to specialist children's and adolescent services (including adolescent medicine and cancer). This post is part of the multi-disciplinary child and adolescent psychological medicine service. The post holder will contribute to the systemic consultation service and a range of psychological therapies for in-patients and out-patients at UCH.
To provide specialist psychological assessments and treatment of children, young people, and their families, using individual, parent and family interviews, informal observation and formal developmental, psychometric and other assessment methods as appropriate.
