Role summary
As an Area Session Sister / Charge Nurse, you will lead blood donation teams, providing expert clinical leadership to ensure safe, high-quality donor care. You will oversee session performance, donor eligibility, and regulatory compliance, acting as a clinical expert to support colleagues and manage risk. This role involves championing continuous improvement and developing your leadership and people management skills within a vital service. You will work 75 hours per fortnight over 9.5-hour shifts, including weekends and bank holidays, based at Oxford Donor Centre and covering surrounding areas.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (Part 1 Adult/General, Level 1 or Level 2).
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and continued learning applied in practice.
- Experience of managing clinical environments within a regulatory framework, including Blood Safety and Quality Regulations (BSQR) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
- Valid driving licence permitting travel within the UK.
- Willingness to travel across an agreed geographical area and work irregular hours, including occasional overnight stays when required.
- Credible leadership experience within a clinical environment, with the ability to motivate and support teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence, negotiate and build positive relationships.
- Experience of managing people, implementing change and working towards performance objectives and organisational targets.
- Strong analytical, judgement and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and make sound decisions.
- Demonstrable knowledge of patient safety, risk management and delivering excellent donor-focused care.
