Role summary
This role involves working as a Clinical Coder, abstracting patient information and assigning appropriate codes onto the Trust's patient administration system according to national standards. The successful candidate will maintain reference manuals, attend training, and ensure high-quality coded data. This position is for Band 4 Clinical Coders who have completed the NHS Clinical Coding Foundation Course and includes a 5% Recruitment & Retention Premium.
Essential criteria
- oA good level of education, Minimum GCSE or equivalent C and above in English, Maths and Science. oAttendance and completion of Clinical Coding Standards Course from an approved centre. oCompletion of appropriate clinical coding courses, including up to date with refresher training.
Desirable criteria
- oDegree level qualification in healthcare related degree
- oExperience in the use of personal computers or aptitude to learn new packages. oPrevious employment in an acute NHS Trust.
- oExperience analysing and appropriately coding complex clinical information across a wide range of clinical specialities.
- oGood knowledge of anatomy and physiology/medical terminology. oComprehensive knowledge/understanding of health records and hospital procedures.
- oCompletion of clinical coding e-Learning modules.
- oHigh degree of interpersonal/organisational skills with the ability to build upon them. oAccurate keyboard/IT skills. oThe ability to interpret written and oral information accurately. oAbility to work on own initiative and as part of a team. oDemonstrates ability to challenge and question by reasonable argument.

Job summary
To undertake the role of a Clinical Coder to clinical groups or specialties as appropriate, abstracting from patient notes and other information sources and assigning suitable codes onto the Trust's patient administration system in line with National standards. Attend training sessions as necessary and work to maintain allocated reference manuals and standards manuals so that they are always up to date with national guidance.
We are recruiting Band 4 Clinical Coders (with a 5% Recruitment & Retention Premium) who have completed the NHS Clinical Coding Foundation Course.
