Role summary
This role is for a motivated and dynamic qualified Children's Nurse to join the Paediatric Emergency Department at Sunderland Royal Hospital and the Children's Urgent Care Centre at South Tyneside. The successful candidate will deliver quality urgent and emergency nursing care to the paediatric population, seeing and treating a wide range of conditions from minor trauma to major medical presentations. The post holder will rotate between both sites to enhance skills and knowledge in care delivery.
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in an acute hospital or community healthcare setting
Desirable criteria
- Recent experience of working as a registered Childrens nurse
- Current NMC Registration (Childrens nurse) or evidence of qualification if newly qualified.
- Degree in Childrens Nursing
- Clinical Teaching experience
- Mentorship preparation
- Teaching qualification
- Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information
- Able to work without supervision
- Competent in the use of IT such as Microsoft Office
- Evidence of CPD
- Knowledge of national health and social care policy
- Knowledge of evidence based guidelines e.g. NICE guidelines, NPSA alerts, current nursing legislation
- Venepuncture and cannulation competency
- Physical Skills
- Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy

Job summary
The
Paediatric Emergency Department at Sunderland Royal Hospital and the Childrens
Urgent Care Centre at South Tyneside are looking to recruit a motivated and
dynamic qualified childrens nurse to join their team in delivering quality
urgent and emergency nursing care to the paediatric population.
The
successful candidate will be joining a team of over 70 experienced qualified
nurses, nurse practitioners and health care assistants who see and treat in
excess of 40,000 patients across both sites each year and will be involved in
all aspects of nursing care to children with conditions ranging from minor
trauma through to major medical presentations.
This is an exciting time for individual development
as we respond to the evolving demand of urgent and emergency care delivery
across Sunderland and South Tyneside. The post holder will be based at
Sunderland Royal Hospital but will rotate between the Paediatric Emergency
Department at SRH and the Childrens Urgent Care Unit at South Tyneside
District Hospital on a regular basis to enhance their skills and knowledge in
care delivery to children requiring non-urgent, urgent and emergency treatment.****
