Role summary
This role is for a compassionate and skilled Specialist Nurse to lead and deliver specialist nursing care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families. You will provide expert symptom management, hands-on nursing care, and emotional and practical support, helping children receive personalised, family-centred care at home. Key responsibilities
- Providing specialist nursing care, symptom management and end-of-life support for children receiving care at home.
- Assessing referrals and eligibility, including nursing and Continuing Care assessments.
- Delivering hands-on clinical care and supporting the safe administration and management of controlled drugs in the community.
- Providing day-to-day leadership and support to the Kaleidoscope Nurse.
- Working with Play Specialists, social care, hospitals, hospices and other professionals to coordinate care.
- Leading and contributing to safeguarding processes, including attendance at relevant meetings and case conferences.
Essential criteria
- RGN / RSCN / RN(Child)
- Community Nursing /Specialist Practitioner Qualification or palliative care qualification
- Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration
- Evidence of post registration education and training including a teaching qualification
- Extensive experience of working within Children's Nursing in a range of settings
- Children's Palliative Care Experience at Band 6 level
- Previous management experience
- Experience of liaising / negotiating with professionals
- Expertise in nursing assessment / clinical skills
- Leadership skills and the ability to motivate staff
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Time management and prioritisation skills
- Knowledge of the purpose and value of Clinical Supervision and support of staff
- Understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities
Desirable criteria
- Advanced Nurse Practitioner qualification
- Community based children's palliative care experience
- Knowledge of legal and statutory implications / requirements for training parents / carers
