Role summary
This role seeks a highly skilled, dynamic, and motivated Hand Therapist to join and lead the MSK Hand Therapy Team. The successful candidate will provide specialist hand therapy services, manage and develop the service, and educate healthcare professionals. The caseload is varied, including acute trauma, post-elective surgery, and community referrals. The team is cohesive and supportive, working within the wider Surrey Downs Health & Care MSK Service.
Essential criteria
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
- HCPC Registration
- CPD including evidence of reflective practice and clinical experience gained
- BAHT Level 1 Accreditation
Desirable criteria
- Accredited Hand Therapist BAHT or equivalent.
- Fieldwork Educators Course
- Master's equivalent level training in related subject.
- Leadership qualification
- Comprehensive post registration experience, of which a sufficient amount must be in Hand Therapy
- Comprehensive splinting experience
- Experience of standardised assessments relevant to hand therapy
- Experience and proficiency with treatment modalities used in hand therapy
- Clinical teaching of OT's/PT's and MDT in local setting
- Experience of supervising / appraising therapy staff and students
- Experience in assessment and treatment of paediatric patients
- Experience with exercise programmes / joint mobilisations
- Experience of wound management
- Participation in clinical research
- Recruitment and selection experience
- Team leadership experience
- Experience in therapies service development including clinical services
- Good clinical reasoning skills
- Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate
- Ability to document legible and accurate notes in English using the SOAP note writing system
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language
- Experience of standardised assessments relevant to hand therapy
- Proficiency with treatment modalities used in hand therapy

Job summary
We are looking for a highly skilled, dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated Hand Therapist to join and help lead our wonderful MSK Hand Therapy Team. Experience of working within a Hand Therapy Service is essential, preferably within the NHS and with experience of managing patients from Acute Elective, Acute Trauma, Plastics and Rheumatology.
We have an active In-Service training programme and excellent links with our Consultant Surgical colleagues who also provide training for the team.
The caseload is varied with the majority being acute trauma or post-elective surgery but also includes community referrals from local GPs and FCPs.
The Hand Therapy unit is very busy but the team are very cohesive and supportive of one and other. The Hand Therapy Service is also part of the wider Surrey Downs Health & Care MSK Service.
Main duties of the job
Role Summary
1. To develop and provide effective and efficient specialist hand therapy services to patients within the context of a hand therapy setting, working autonomously and without direct supervision
2. To be responsible for the organisation, management, evaluation and development of the hand therapy service and to deputise for the Operational Lead as required.
