Role summary
This is a fixed-term part-time position for a Senior/Specialist Speech & Language Therapist in Neurosciences, covering maternity leave for up to 12 months. The role involves working with patients with neurological disorders, managing a caseload of adults with acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders, and actively participating in multidisciplinary decision-making. The successful candidate will provide outpatient clinics, run a Parkinson's Disease group, and conduct inpatient assessments, with potential for work in other specialist areas.

- oKnowledge of national and professional guidelines and evidence-based practice related to specialist area

- oCompleted post basic dysphagia training & competencies
- oIT competence

- Qualifications and training (Band 7)
- oTo hold a degree or relevant Diploma in Speech & Language Therapy
- oTo be a registered member of the Health Care Professions Council
- oTo have advanced post-graduate training in dysphagia (can be in house or external)
- oLeadership qualifications or training
- oMember of RCSLT
- Qualifications and training (Band 6)
- oDegree and licence to practice as a SLT as approved by RSCLT
- oTo be a registered member of the Health Care Professions Council
- oRegistered member of RCSLT
- oAttendance at leadership & development programme
- Experience (Band 7)
- oTo have substantial post graduate experience including work with patients with neurological conditions in an acute and rehabilitation setting
- oTo have experience in the management of dysphagia, ideally including videofluoroscopy
- oExperience of working within the NHS
- oLeadership experience
- oEvidence of relevant post graduate courses or study at Masters level or equivalent
- oTo have experience in management and/or supervising other staff members in a team

We are looking for a Senior Speech & Language Therapist / Specialist Speech & Language Therapist, depending on experience, to join our team to cover a maternity leave on a fixed term contract for up to 12 months. Those seeking to further specialise in the field of neurosciences and who enjoy a mix of both acute and community working would be ideal for this role. It would suit either someone already working at Band 6 level, who is ready to take the next steps in their career development or someone already working at Band 7, with advanced skills in managing neurological dysphagia and related communication disorders. The successful applicant should have experience of working with patients with neurological disorders and have post graduate dysphagia training.
The Speech & Language Therapy team is looking for a team player, who can demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and be flexible in their approach to patient care.
