Role summary
This role is for an ambitious Occupational Therapist to join a Band 6 rotational programme at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The position offers diverse acute and community placements, including a Stroke Unit, rehabilitation, and long-term conditions services. The successful candidate will manage a complex caseload, supervise students, and provide leadership to junior staff, contributing to high-quality patient care and service development.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a designated caseload with complex needs using evidence-based principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate.
- Maintain records which fulfil legal requirements.
- Regularly supervise O.T. students on practice placements.
- Provide leadership for junior/support staff, through supervision and appraisal as delegated by a senior member of staff.
- Participate in rotational scheme across various specialties including Elderly, General Medicine, Stroke Unit, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Complex Neurological conditions, and Community Rehabilitation.
- Assess and treat a specific caseload of patients, demonstrating broad knowledge of clinical conditions and undertaking individual initial screens.
Essential criteria
- At least 18 months post qualification experience
- Broad based experience of Occupational Therapy treatment including work as a qualified OT in an NHS acute hospital
- Knowledge and experience of equipment provision and prescription.
- Broad experience of treatment options and approached
- Advanced clinical reasoning skills.
- Experience in complex moving and handling.
- Experience in assessment and discharge planning within a fast paced environment.
- Broad experience in standardised assessment.
- Broad experience in assessment of and treatment of cognitive deficits.
- Knowledge of wheelchair assessment and provision
- Experience of supervising / teaching other staff
- Good verbal communication skills in the English language
- Ability to communicate clearly with other disciplines
- Ability to keep clear, precise records in the English language, which meet legal requirements
- Clear, concise report writing
- A clear understanding of clinical governance and its implications on OT
- Ability to plan, prioritise and manage a caseload
- Able to work autonomously and to manage time effectively
- Broad understanding of current issues surrounding healthcare provision in London
- Knowledge of Support services in community
- Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- Evidence including attendance at recent post graduate courses/training relevant to rotational clinical specialties
- Member of British Association of Occupational Therapists
- Supervision/Experience Training
- Practice Placement Training
- DBS clearance
