This is an exciting opportunity for a Higher Level Dental Nurse to join the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontic Department at Salford Royal Hospital. The role involves providing specialist dental nursing support across various surgical and orthodontic procedures, delivering high-quality care to diverse patient groups. The successful candidate will utilise and develop enhanced clinical skills, working closely with a multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities include supporting service delivery, undertaking nurse-led activities, quality assurance, patient education, and supervising learners.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high quality specialist dental nursing care within Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontic services.
- Provide chairside support for a wide range of dental and surgical procedures, including complex treatments and intravenous sedation.
- Undertake dental radiography in accordance with IR(ME)R regulations and departmental protocols.
- Support nurse-led clinics including oral health promotion, radiography and pre-operative assessment clinics.
- Maintain quality assurance processes relating to radiography, medical emergency equipment, dental equipment and infection prevention and control.
- Supervise, support and mentor dental nursing colleagues, apprentices and learners within the clinical environment.
Essential criteria
- Registered with the General Dental Council
- National Examining Board for Dental Nurses Certificate or equivalent
- Post Qualification in Conscious Sedation
- Post Qualification in Dental radiography
- Experience of Oral Surgery Dental Nursing
- Experience of Orthodontic Dental Nursing
- Basic IT skills

- NEBDN Post qualification in: Oral Health
- Certificate in Orthodontic Dental Nursing
- Dental impression taking

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Higher Level Dental Nurse to join the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontic Department at Salford Royal Hospital.
You must be registered with the General Dental Council and hold a recognised Dental Nursing qualification. A post qualification certificate in Dental Radiography and/or Dental Conscious Sedation is essential. Experience within Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics is highly desirable. The successful candidate will provide specialist dental nursing support across Oral Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics, delivering high quality care to a diverse patient group, including those with complex medical, physical, sensory and learning needs. The role offers the opportunity to utilise and develop enhanced clinical skills, working closely with consultants, specialty doctors, trainees and the wider multidisciplinary team.
As a Higher Level Dental Nurse, you will play a key role in supporting service delivery, undertaking nurse-led activities, quality assurance processes, patient education, supervision of learners and contributing to the ongoing development of the department
