Role summary
This role involves providing specialist nursing care, assessment, treatment, and education to children and young people with asthma and other respiratory conditions across various settings. The post holder will manage a specialist caseload, deliver nurse-led clinics, and provide expert advice to patients, families, and healthcare professionals. It also includes collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to staff education, and participating in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives.

- RSCN/RN child with significant experience
- Mentorship/teaching qualification
Desirable criteria
- Nurse Prescriber (V300)
- Master's degree or working towards one in a health related subject
- Advanced Physical Assessment module
- Asthma course or extensive respiratory experience
- Significant paediatric experience
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of the asthma/ respiratory nurse specialist
- Sound working knowledge of current issues and legislation pertaining to specialist area of practice
- Broad paediatric nursing experience in a variety of settings
- Experience of management (patient caseload or staff team)
- Experience of working in a community setting
- Family dynamics and the implications on the family of a child with chronic illness
- Good working knowledge of child safeguarding practices nationally and locally
- Knowledge of national guidelines and policies pertaining to children
- Knowledge pertaining to informed consent relating to children
- Awareness of current research and its effect on quality patient care
- Knowledge of local targets plans and guidelines for children
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to deal with situations of conflict in a professional manner
- Able to act as a professional role model.

- Able to communicate, with empathy age appropriate clinically sensitive information

- To be competent in the administration of IV therapy via a variety of access routes
- Computer Literate in a variety of software packages

Job summary
The Paediatric Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide specialist nursing care, assessment, treatment, education and ongoing support to children and young people with asthma and other respiratory conditions across acute and community settings. The post holder will manage a specialist caseload, deliver nurse-led and multidisciplinary clinics, undertake respiratory assessments including FeNO and spirometry, and provide expert advice to children, families and healthcare professionals.
The role will work closely with paediatric respiratory consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate care, support safe discharge and transition to adult services, and promote evidence-based asthma and respiratory management. The post holder will also contribute to staff education, clinical audit, research, quality improvement, clinical governance and implementation of national asthma and respiratory standards across the Trust.
