Role summary

Essential criteria

  • Previous NHS, hospital or healthcare administrative experience
  • Experience using computer systems and Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Accurate data entry and attention to detail
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with patients who may be anxious or distressed
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Basic understanding of administrative procedures, record keeping and appointment systems
  • Understanding of confidentiality and the importance of handling personal information appropriately
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion

The EPU Ward Clerk is responsible for delivering efficient administrative support within the Early Pregnancy Unit, ensuring patient records are accurate, appointments are coordinated, and communication between patients and the multidisciplinary team is effective. The role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and a sensitive, professional approach when dealing with patients experiencing pregnancy-related concerns.

Main duties of the job

Welcome patients and visitors in a courteous and compassionate manner.

Register patients and update electronic patient records accurately

Answer telephone calls and respond to enquiries, directing calls appropriately.

Maintain confidential patient information in accordance with NHS policies and data protection regulations.

Prepare and organise patient notes, clinic lists, and relevant documentation.

Liaise with consultants, nurses, midwives, sonogra
