Role summary
This role is for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist to lead a team supporting adults with complex communication and swallowing difficulties on a stroke rehabilitation ward. You will manage a specialist caseload, provide supervision to junior therapists, and contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives. The position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team.
Essential criteria
- Degree in SLT
- HCPC Licence to Practise
- Registered with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Dysphagia Post-qualification training / qualification
- Evidence of recent relevant CPD activities
Desirable criteria
- Completed FEES competencies
- Completed Tracheostomy Competencies
- High level of experience in specialised clinical area
- Experience of assessing and treating complex neuro-disability / Stroke
- Experience in giving training to a range of qualified professionals in area of specialism
- Evidence of highly specialised management of a complex / diverse caseload
- Experience of Leadership and management of others
- skills and knowledge
- Experience developing highly specialised programmes of care
- Have highly developed empathy, negotiation and influencing skills and demonstrates clinical leadership within a team.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and overcomes barriers to communication
- Highly skilled in managing complex eating and drinking problems
- Evidence of the ablilty to manage and balance a high level of clinical risk to maximise patient care

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic team leader, with relevant experience, who is keen to use their knowledge and skills in supporting a team of Speech and Language Therapist to deliver rehabiliation to adults with complex communication and swallowing difficulties. As an organisation we pride ourselves on delivering high quality patient centred care. The successful applicant will become an integral part of a dedicated specialist rehab team comprising of speech & language therapists, physiotherapists, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, nurses, doctors and skilled support staff. You will line manage and provide supervision to a small team of junior speech and language therapists, students and support staff/assistants. Excellent communication skills and flexibility are essential to the role.
This is a fixed term post due to the current post holder taking maternity leave.
