Role summary
This is a 36-month Therapeutic Radiographer Apprenticeship opportunity at University College Hospital London, leading to a Level 6 BSc (Hons) Therapeutic Radiography Degree from the University of Hertfordshire. Key responsibilities
- Work and train within the Radiotherapy Department, engaging in direct contact with patients and their families.
- Study for a Level 6 BSc (Hons) Therapeutic Radiography Degree Apprenticeship with the University of Hertfordshire.
- Work 80% of hours in the Radiotherapy department and dedicate the remainder to academic study.
- Develop skills in patient care, communication, anatomy, physiology, radiotherapy physics, and radiation protection.
- Undertake a wide range of clinical experiences within Therapeutic Radiography, including CT simulation, treatment planning, and treatment delivery.
- Take increasing responsibility for delivering treatment safely and effectively, supported by experienced clinical staff.
Essential criteria
- 5 CGSEs grade C or above to include Maths and English (or equivalent). These will be requested before being invited to an assessment.
- University entry requirements: 3 A levels or Equivalent Level 3 qualification e.g. BTEC National Diploma or NVQ Level 3 - in science related subjects (physics, biology or chemistry)
- On entry into programme: Demonstrate a willingness to undertake the radiographer practitioner degree apprenticeship course to gain professional registration with HCPC (Failure to achieve this would result in termination of contract)
- Be able to demonstrate continuous professional development.
- Please note on successful completion of the three year apprenticeship programme the post holder will achieve a BSc (Hons) Therapeutic Radiography degree.
- Apprentices whose first language is not English need to meet IELTS requirements of at least 7.0 overall and no less than 6.5 in any other section
- Evidence of interest in radiotherapy and its application in healthcare
- Able to use Microsoft Office. Able to use hospital ICT systems
- Demonstrate awareness of advocacy for patients
- Evidence of ability to assess the needs of the patient
- Demonstrates professional approach, in demeanour, appearance and time keeping
- Ability to problem solve (for example in time management)
- Demonstrates an awareness of own limitations
- Ability to use own initiative within professional boundaries
- Willingness to demonstrate own work and assist in the induction of new staff members

- Demonstrates excellent communication skills with an ability to relate confidently

- Right to remain and work in the United Kingdom. If you are here on a visa, your visa length must exceed the length of the apprenticeship course. Candidates must have been resident in the UK for the previous three years at start of study (depending on visa status). Candidates must live in England.
- Candidates must not be in any other funded training through the Adult Education Budget (AEB) or from the Department for Education (DfE)
Desirable criteria
- Good understanding of legislation relating to Health and Safety and radiation protection
- Recent clinical experience working in the radiotherapy department
- Recent experience of working with service users within the healthcare setting
- Experience in carrying out assigned duties /assisting qualified radiotherapy staff
