Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an Emergency Planning Officer to join University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB). You will be part of a team responsible for coordinating Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) across all acute and community sites. The role involves ensuring the Trust is prepared for emergencies, developing and delivering training, and focusing on business continuity planning. You will need to be enthusiastic and have excellent interpersonal skills.
Key responsibilities
- Aid the delivery of the Trusts Emergency Planning Work Programme.
- Support the Trust in achieving and maintaining compliance against the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and associated EPRR guidance.
- Review and update existing plans, supporting the roll-out of training and exercising programmes.
- Get involved in the response to any potential incidents or emergencies.
- Provide programme and administrative support to the team to ensure delivery of projects.
- Coordinate communications for external partners, including commissioners and regulators.
Essential criteria
- *Degree level qualification in Emergency Planning or similar field as well as significant knowledge and experience in a relevant EPRR field to post graduate level.
- *Qualification in Training/Education or equivalent
- *Project Management qualification / demonstrative experience of supporting /leading the delivery of project management.
- *Detailed knowledge of EPRR legislation, including the Civil Contingencies Act 2004
- *Working within and with multi-disciplinary teams and multi-agency environments
- *Supporting the delivery of projects across an organisation
- *Experience of managing risks and reporting
- *Proven experience of writing reports to a high level
- *Experience of developing and reviewing emergency and business continuity plans and procedures in line with local and national guidance
- *Experience of EPRR working within the NHS or Public Sector
- *Experience of performing risk assessments
- *Experience of carrying out Business Impact Analysis
- *Experience of designing, delivering, and evaluating tests or exercises of emergency and business continuity plans
- *Experience of responding to incidents/actual emergencies
- *Ability to analyse complex issues where material may be conflicting and drawn from multiple sources.
- *Demonstrated capability to act upon incomplete information, using experience or critical thinking to make inferences and decision making.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) for an Emergency Planning Officer. You will work across all of our acute hospital sites -- Good Hope, Heartlands, Queen Elizabeth and Solihull and our Community Sites.
You will be part of an Emergency Planning Team who are responsible for the co-ordination of Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) across the Trust ensuring that UHB is fully prepared to respond to and manage any emergency situation it may face. This includes the development and delivery of training to all levels of staff across the Trust with pre-designated roles within the Trusts emergency incident plans as well as some bespoke training packages as required. Business Continuity planning and exercising is a key aspect of this role and therefore an understanding of and/or an interest in business continuity would be beneficial.
You will need to be enthusiastic, with a pragmatic approach and excellent inter-personal skills to be successful for this exciting and dynamic role and in return you will receive a comprehensive development programme to provide you with the skills and competency to succeed in this post.
