Role summary
This role involves providing high-quality primary healthcare to low secure mental health patients within a Forensic Unit. The post holder will lead on comprehensive assessment, monitoring, treatment, and health promotion interventions, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. The aim is to address physical health needs, reduce health inequalities, and support patients' optimum physical wellbeing in a secure care environment. The role requires an NMC Registered General Nurse to deliver specialist physical healthcare to adults with complex mental health needs.
Essential criteria
- Able to undertake training in physical intervention including Prevention, managing violence and aggression, and moving and handling of patients.
- To be able to work with IDD patients

- Experience is delivering the national vaccination programme
- Experience of working a physical health nurse for a minimum of 2 years
- Has a caring and empathetic manner and the ability to treat each patient as an individual
- Experience in managing own time and prioritise care appropriately so that appointment schedules are maintained
- Experience in the muse of Motivational interviewing techniques
- Experience is using IT systems, clinical applications and Rio
- Experience using Microsoft software including Word, Power Point and Publisher
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in Forensic Mental Health setting
- An understanding, acceptemce and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
- A commitment to ensure all Health and Safety requirements and Infection Control measures are met and to report any problems to the Lead Nurse
- A good working knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable adults.
- Broad knowledge of clinical governance
- Understanding of infection prevention and control measures
- Knowledge of public health related to mental health patients' issues in the local area.
- Knowledge of health promotion strategies
- 24 Blood pressure measurements/ hypertension management
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to the Lead Nurse, Advanced Clinical Practitioner or GPs as appropriate.
- Routine immunisations including childhood vaccinations for adults' patients without complete records, under PGDs
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Performing Urinalysis
- Obtaining and interpreting ECGs, including 24-hour ECG monitoring and reporting.
- Obtaining and reporting Spirometry results
- Expert venepuncture skills and requesting basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs

Job summary
To provide highly quality primary healthcare to low secure mental health patients, working as part of multidisciplinary as a primary healthcare Nurse.
To lead on the delivery of high-quality physical healthcare within a Low Secure Forensic Unit, ensuring patients receive comprehensive assessment, monitoring, treatment, and health promotion interventions.
