Key responsibilities

  • Work throughout the Unit caring for intensive care, high dependency, and special care babies, including ventilated babies.
  • Work unsupervised in the Transitional Care Unit/SCU and take charge of an allocated group of babies or a nursery under supervision.
  • Work effectively with the integrated multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care.
  • Contribute towards developing and maintaining a suitable learning environment for students and for the ongoing development of staff.
  • Promote and help manage delivery of a quality nursing service, setting and monitoring clinical standards in NICU and Transitional Care.
  • Work as a Shift Leader and Deputise for the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse after completion of unit specific competencies.

Essential criteria

  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • RSCN/RNCB or Registered Adult Nurse/Midwife
  • Working in an acute hospital setting
  • Experience at band 5, in a Neonatal Unit/SCBU

Desirable criteria

  • Special, High Dependency & Intensive Care of Newborn Course
  • Evidence of further professional development
  • QIS Level 3 Qualification
  • Neonatal Critical Care course or equivalent
  • Experience and consolidation of ITU post QIS qualification
  • Experience at band 6, in a Neonatal Unit/SCBU

Job summary

Ashford and St Peter's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is every bit as special as the babies we care for.

We are the Lead level 3 NICU for Surrey and part of the Surrey, Sussex and Kent Network, providing expert care for 28 of the sickest and most complex babies using the most up to date ventilatory support techniques such as Vapotherm in the delivery room, Cooling Therapy and Nitric Oxide.

We have an 8 bedded Transitional Care Unit (TCU) where Mothers can remain with their babies up until discharge. Our focus is on Family Integrated Care throughout the babies' journey and we hostthe Surrey arm of the Neonatal Transport Service.
