Role summary
This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Band 6 Junior Sister to join the dynamic team on Douglas ward at St Mary's Hospital. The role involves managing and leading a busy Hepatology ward and acute medicine side rooms, delivering patient-centered care within a multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will enhance clinical experience with good managerial skills and contribute to developing future nursing leaders.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision.
- Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care.
- Assist and advise staff, both registered and unregistered in the delivery of patient care.
- Plan organise and deploy staff according to ability and workload in order to meet patient needs.
- Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience
- Previous experience of speciality
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Teaching
- Ability to organise ward activities and to use initiative
- Ability to solve problems and contribute new ideas
- Competency in medication administration including IV medications
- Skills required to undertake clinical activity related to speciality
- Basic IT skills
- Knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
- Awareness of current developments in nursing
- Knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct
- Knowledge of speciality
Desirable criteria
- Relevant specialist course or equivalent experience
