Role summary
This Apheresis Specialist Nurse role is based at the Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre within Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham. You will work closely with the Apheresis Ward Manager and CCC Lead Nurse to provide clinical care for patients and stem cell donors. The role involves acting as a source of clinical expertise, providing a nationally renowned bespoke service for healthy donors. You will be responsible for the care of donors/patients requiring specialist apheresis procedures, ensuring safe, effective care and an excellent experience.
Key responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the care of donors/patients requiring specialist apheresis procedures.
- Act as a competent, knowledgeable and visible practitioner within the speciality.
- Ensure the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for donors/patients.
- Remain current and up to date with clinical protocols and best practice.
- Maintain specialist knowledge of apheresis, including competence in the care and management of intravenous access, drug administration and apheresis processes.
Essential criteria
- First level registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Degree/Equivalent diploma
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Intravenous medication package completed.
- Cannulation and venepuncture proficiency.
- Completion of an apheresis training programme
- Post-registration clinical experience in apheresis practices and procedures
- Supervision of registered and non-registered staff and students
- Ability to manage workload efficiently and effectively
- Convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relative/carers and staff
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
- Produce timely, accurate written/electronic records and documents
- Recognition of own level of competence and limitations able to communicate these to appropriate staff
- Evidence of negotiation and influencing skills
- Able to minimise interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication.
- Demonstrate team working and ability to work within a team.
- Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, deliver, prioritise and evaluate patient care
- Ability to identify own learning needs
- Able to respond to difficult situations and to ensure that effective interventions are put in place

As the Apheresis Specialist Nurse, you will be based at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, within the Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre, hosted by the Clinical Research Facility.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for you to join our high performing team. You will work closely with the Apheresis Ward Manager and the CCC Lead Nurse to provide all aspects of clinical care for patients and stem cell donors.
The post holder will work as part of a highly skilled specialist team acting as a source of clinical expertise, providing a nationally renowned bespoke service for healthy donors who are giving their stem cells to recipients both in the UK and globally. The team are lovely to work with and are friendly and supportive to new starters to enable them to develop their skills and knowledge when learning about this unique service.
