Role summary
This Bank Mammographer role involves providing safe, efficient, and effective imaging and Breast Mammography services for the Trust and South Essex Screening service. The post holder will ensure high-quality mammography, support the superintendent in staff and workload organisation, and demonstrate expertise in breast imaging techniques. They will also contribute to the development of the breast mammography service and supervise junior staff.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake screening responsibilities and justify imaging for self-referrals over the upper age limit.
- Operate autonomously on mobile screening vans, making clinical decisions and liaising with host site staff.
- Relay important and sometimes difficult information to patients and other health professionals, explaining procedures and gaining consent.
- Produce mammograms of optimum quality across a broad range of imaging techniques, adhering to time constraints and maintaining patient welfare.
- Lead in the provision of radiographic techniques for stereotactic biopsy and guidewire localisation, ensuring compliance with radiation regulations.
Essential criteria
- BSc (Hons) Radiography/Diploma of The College of Radiographers or equivalent.
- Certificate of Competence in mammography/Post Graduate Certificate in Mammographic Practice.
- HCPC Registration
- Minimum 5 year's senior clinical mammography experience
- Extensive experience in radiographic techniques for biopsies including stereotactic procedures
- Thorough knowledge of IR(ME)R
- Evidence of well-developed knowledge of NHSBSP, Cancer Services and Breast Care
- Well- Developed knowledge of Breast Pathology
Desirable criteria
- Experience of clinical audit
- PGDip Mammographic imaging or equivalent
- Breast interventional experience
- Screening film reading experience in line with image interpretation course and Screening Director discretion

Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for providing a safe, efficient and effective imaging and Breast Mammography service for the Trust and South Essex Screening service in accordance with Screening and Trust protocols. They will ensure a high-quality Mammography service is maintained at all times.
The post holder will support the superintendent in organising staff and workload to maintain adequate staffing in each area and respond to changes in demand in a positive and constructive manner
The post holder will demonstrate expertise in Breast Imaging techniques by promoting high standards of diagnostic radiography through best practice and education and by maintaining and developing high standards of patient care and best practice amongst peers, student colleagues and users of the breast imaging service. They will take an active role in the development of the breast mammography service in order to continuously improve patient safety and experience and will be responsible for the organisation and coordination of the staff rotating through the mammography rooms.
The senior radiographer will support the breast unit senior team in achieving the department and trust objectives and will supervise and advise newly qualified/junior radiographers, undergraduate students and assistant practitioners.
