Role summary
This is an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to work 34.5 hours per week in a busy Minor Injury Unit/Outpatient Department/Wards at Newquay Community Hospital. The role involves carrying out minor injury treatments such as dressings, plastering, general observations, and triage. The successful candidate will assist MIU/OPD trained staff in patient care and provide A&C support.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out minor injury treatments such as dressings, plastering, general observations and triage.
- Provide assistance to MIU/OPD trained staff in planning, delivering, and evaluating care.
- Book in patients and attend to their general needs in the OPD.
- Provide A&C support as needed to members of the team.
Essential criteria
- GCSE Maths and English
- NVQ 3 in Direct Care or equivalent qualification / experience
- Previous experience as a HCA within a hospital setting
- Experience of working in an urgent care environment / outpatient department / ward environment
- Computer literate and ability to use web-based IT programmes
- Willingness and ability to undertake further skills training, for example, wound management and plaster cast application.

Successful applicants will be invited to attend a Selection Day at Carew House, Bodmin on 25 September 2026. This will be a morning or afternoon to be confirmed.
An opportunity has arisen for a 34.5 hour post working within a busy Minor Injury Unit/Outpatient Department/Wards at Newquay Community Hospital.
This post requires the successful candidate to carry out minor injury treatments such as dressings, plastering, general observations and triage.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will have experience working in an Urgent care/MIU/OPD and will have completed MIU skills/triage workbooks.
Work will include:
The provision of assistance to the MIU/OPD trained staff within the minor injury unit/outpatient department in planning, delivering, and evaluating care.
Providing the booking in of patients and attending to patient's general needs in the OPD. All interventions will be carried out to a high standard under the supervision of the trained MIU/OPD practitioners
To provide A&C support as needed to members of the team.
An ability to work under pressure in an emergency setting and a willingness to undertake further skills training is essential.
