Role summary

This role is for a Chef to join the Catering Team at Sherwood Oaks Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing quality, freshly cooked, healthy meals to patients, ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are met. It is a permanent, part-time position working 35 hours a week, including weekends and bank holidays, with shifts between 6:30 am and 6:00 pm.

Key responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the provision of patient meals by undertaking specific outlined and approved processes and procedures.
  • Ensure the quality and food safety of meals at service are safe and appropriate and within the guidelines of food hygiene legislation.
  • Ensure compliance with the Catering Food Safety Manual, Trust policies and procedures and to the Food Safety Act and Food Hygiene Regulations.
  • Provide assistance and information as required around the patient meals and menus.
  • Provide a point of contact between the catering provision and the wards to identify any issues or specific dietary requirements including allergen information.

Essential criteria

  • Intermediate level of knowledge or experience to City & Guilds Lvl 2/ work towards apprenticeship Lvl 2 standards
  • Level 2 Food Safety Certificate

Desirable criteria

  • City & Guilds 706/1 or equivalent (NVQ/Apprenticeship Level 2)
  • City & Guilds 706/1 or equivalent (NVQ/Apprenticeship Level 3)
  • Level 3 Food Safety certificate
  • Health & Safety Workplace Certificate
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of relevant NHS procedures and practices, including legal requirements
  • Experience in ordering of supplies
  • Experience as a qualified chef
  • Ability to cook small and large quantities including special diets
  • Experience in quality monitoring of food production
  • Experience in staff supervision of catering services
  • Experience in producing menus/special diets
  • Experienced driver, able to drive Trust vehicle
  • A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Job summary

We are looking for a Chef to join our Catering Team at Sherwood Oaks Hospital, Mansfield. If you are someone who is hardworking and energetic with a passion for delivering quality freshly cooked, healthy, wholesome food to our patients, then we would love to hear from you.

We have a 35 hour permanent position available working over 7 days, 35 hours a week (including working weekends and bank holidays). Shifts are between 06:30am and 6:00pm, the pattern will be discussed at interview.
